Idle Sounds

Tyson has a tendency to be quiet, if not wholly silent, most of the time.
Though Tyson is an excellent singer, he rarely elects to do so when he’s on his own. He spent the majority of his childhood being taught to stay quiet unless addressed directly. He doesn’t tend to make any noise unless he has to. On a good day, he’ll hum - very quietly - to himself, but singing is rare.
If one were to catch Tyson making any type of idle sound, faintly muttering to himself to straighten out his thought process is far more likely than humming or whistling. Sound for sound’s sake is asking for trouble, but - so long as he’s being quiet - speaking to himself shows that he’s working.
Generally, Tyson does enjoy his silence and tends to keep his silence even when he has background noise on, but there are times when keeping silent becomes oppressive and he needs to talk to get rid of the vice in his throat. Preferably, he would talk to his dogs, but he’ll speak to himself if it proves necessary.

Boats

Tyson isn’t exactly delighted by any mode of transports, but he finds boats to be agreeable enough.
Whenever possible, Tyson would prefer to keep his feet on dry land and move under his own power, but he isn’t afraid of boats in any capacity and accepts that they’re safe enough.
Unlike planes, Tyson has no negative memories surrounding boats. In fact, Tyson has a lot of pleasant memories of time spent with Jethro and his family on boats. Even with Jethro’s adoration of coral factored in.

Grandmother

Tyson’s grandmother - Ellen Delaney - passed away when Tyson was nine.
This affected Tyson much more than his mother’s decision to leave had. He was only four when Anne divorced his father and Tyson can barely remember her.
His grandmother, on the other hand, was someone that Tyson adored. She taught him how to play piano and most of the limited Yiddish that he knows. She used to bake apple pies with him and gave Tyson his love of Jasmine tea.
Ellen’s funeral is one of the few times that Tyson got to see a chink in his father’s armour and one of the only times that Tyson can say John had an appropriate, and proportional, reaction to the things going on around him.
Whilst Jethro mourned Ellen, he was never as close to his grandmother as he had been to his grandfather, who passed away when Jethro was six. Lucus’ passing caused Jethro to distance himself from his grandmother subconsciously and they never managed to close that distance before she passed away.

Bread

For the most part, Tyson’s rather relaxed in his practice of Judaism, but it is still very important to him. He may only make the effort to eat Kosher on Saturdays, but he makes sure to each Kosher on every Saturday. Sharing meals is an important part of Jewish culture, even more so ‘breaking bread’, specially Challah.
If Tyson is willing to share bread - not a sandwich, but specially a loaf or roll of bread - with you, you are very important to him. Even if the bread he offers you isn’t Challah, the symbolism is still there to Tyson. He’s unlikely to explain how important sharing bread is to him, unless directly asked, because - for the most part - Tyson keeps his religion private.
If Tyson is willing to share actually Challah with you on the Sabbath, you are something Tyson is willing to die for.
If someone rejects Tyson’s offer of bread, he’s unlikely to take offense; being someone who views eating a chore generally, he understands not wanting to take the food. The exceptions to this are people Tyson knows to be Jewish - as he’d expect them to understand the symbolism - and people who he’s explained the meaning to. Even if the bread isn’t eaten, Tyson prefers that the person accepts the bread from him.
Amongst Tyson’s many other food quirks, he can comfortably eat bread on its own without complaint. However, he hates eating sandwiches without butter in them as he finds them too dry; even if they already have something like jam in them. That is most likely a carryover from packed lunches of varying quality made by the staff at the family manor when Tyson was at primary school.
Bread is amongst those foods that Tyson knows how to make and, whilst he’ll spend half the time whining about how the dough sticks to his hands, making bread is something Tyson genuinely enjoys doing. He finds it to be a very satisfying process and he’s always proud of what he makes.

Copying his father

As much as he tries to distance himself from John now, Tyson spent his childhood desperately trying to be his father.
Tyson idolised his father. He wanted to spend as much time around him as possible. He would - subconsciously - start mimicking the way John gestured when teaching and, purposefully, try to match the way John spoke as well.
By age ten, Tyson had his father’s posture and gait perfected. He then spent the next decade of his life trying to distance himself from that, eventually finding his own footing in a soldier’s gait and the way he walks on the balls of his feet at home.

His Dark Materials AU

Tyson’s dæmon is a female Belgian Malinois called Yenta (יֶענטֶע), a female Yiddish name meaning ‘Aristocratic or Noble’. Tyson is in perfect harmony with יֶענטֶע.
In this verse, Tyson’s timeline is the same. Yenta is simply involved in the events that transpired. Her influence is felt in how the events played out, but the normal events still appear in the same order.
Their time is split between the army!verse house and his normal apartment. Though Tyson is more comfortable in the safe house provided by the Moriarty Mirrors’, his normal apartment, Yenta needs more room to move around comfortably.
As he doesn’t always live in the middle of the city, Tyson has room for all of his dogs: Lily, Bobby, and Jack. Tyson still uses his apartment, when he needs to be somewhere smaller to feel safe or for work, but he also has the option to sleep at Pup’s Pet Store too; Yenta insists they open the store as much as possible. With his father’s passing, Tyson has inherited the family manor.
Where Tyson is generally a man of few words, Yenta is always talking, just not vocally. She is constantly communicating to Tyson thought her body language and subtle gestures only they understand, but she rarely speaks. When she does, her voice is soft with the same precise pronunciation that had been drilled into Tyson by countless tutors.
Though Yenta feels Tyson’s emotions, they do not share a mind. Yenta is unaffected by Tyson’s mental conditions. This means that Tyson’s OCD, anxiety, PTSD, Borderline Split Personality Disorder, and Synesthesia are his own. That said, Yenta does experience her own trauma as a form of PTSD.
They don’t always agree on everything, but usually Ty and Yenta can understand the other. Tyson was three when his Synesthesia became apparent. He was too young for it to become a huge revelation that his dæmon saw the world differently. As he became older and learnt to understand - then later control and suppress - his Synesthesia, Yenta felt lost at her inability to help him. And her inability to convince him not to suppress it.
Yenta took many forms before settling, but she unwavering favoured feline forms. A gentle tabby purring in Tyson’s lap, a slinking lynx on nighttime escapades, and a fearsome panther to keep dangers away.
Tyson thought those forms suited her personality, but a dæmon ultimately settles to match their human’s personality. To no one’s great surprise, Yenta ended up settling as a dog. Yenta eventually settled as a Belgian Malinois, with a red-mahogany coat. Her muzzle black and the edges of her ears too.
It’s somewhat unnerving, how alike Yenta and Tyson look. On first glance few would see the similarities: her coat lighter than Tyson’s hair, her eyes always dark brown rather than the changing brown and green of Tyson’s hazel. It’s the look those eyes give, however. The same bright-eyed understanding, gears turning, as their heads cock to the side in curiosity. Not malicious, not cold - just focused, controlled, calculated.
Their weight resting on their toes, muscles taut and coiled - ready for action at a moment’s notice, fight or flight; whatever is needed. The poise of their stance. A light stealthy step, unnoticed. Seamlessly synchronised. The way tension never truly leaves their bodies, even when relaxing: always an eye or an ear on the door. Naturally slotting together to cover each other’s flanks.
In pure looks, to judge them based on a photo, it would have to be a photo taken in just the right moment - an inquisitive look, the softening of seeing a friend or family - for them to appear alike. To see them together, to see them in motion, you would say they were identical.
Yenta settled once Jethro - and his dæmon, a Eurasian Brown Bear - ran away from home at eighteen, when Tyson was fourteen. The brothers had always been close, near inseparable. Losing them hurt, and suddenly Tyson had the full focus of his father’s anger. With the responsibility forced onto his shoulders, Tyson had already been mature beyond his age.
With Yithrô and Tikvah (תִּקְוָה) gone, neither Tyson nor Yenta had a shield anymore. They had to grow up quickly. Life wasn’t going to become any easier for the pair.
Growing up in the Delaney family manor, Tyson and his older brother, Yithrô, were expected to uphold the family legacy. They were expected to be perfect heirs. Constant lessons, tutors for every subject, and perfect grades. It was never enough. They could never reach their father’s impossible standards.
There was never an active decision to touch each others’ dæmon, but Tyson and Jethro always physically comforted each other after their father’s ‘discipline’. Their dæmons also needed that comfort. With Tikvah being such a large creature, and always favouring large forms before settling, it was somewhat inevitable that they would end up touching from time to time. The decision to never tell their father was very conscious.
When Tyson decided the abandon the family legacy and join the army instead, it wasn’t his decision. It was Yenta’s. Where Tyson bottled up his emotions and puts his faith in logic to assure the best course of action, his dæmon trusts her emotions to guide her actions. Hearts and minds combined. He felt what she felt, as she felt what he felt.
It was Yenta’s encouragement to follow his heart that finally led to Tyson signing up. He took well to having the structure and order of the military, and יֶענטֶע was certainly happy about the number of other dog dæmons; and dogs in general. As Tyson trained various breeds of service dogs, she was always with him. For better and for worse. Much, much worse.
She was as smitten by Kim’s dæmon, a common squirrel monkey, as Tyson was by Kim. Everyone hurt when their relationship ended. Yenta was there for The Colonel too. Yenta was more sceptical of Sebastian than Tyson was, but Tyson’s heart bled for Sebastian and Yenta always followed her heart, she wouldn’t - couldn’t - stop Tyson from following his.
Just as she can’t stop Tyson from coming to his aid, to being at his beck and call now. He didn’t let Yenta into the room when he was with Sebastian, but Tyson couldn’t have hidden the abuse from her; she felt his pain as surely as she did his love for the man.
Yenta wasn’t as close to Sebastian’s dæmon as she had been Kims, but she still enjoyed the tigress’ company and they worked well together. As Tyson slept, Yenta pleaded with Sebastian’s dæmon to reason with the man, to stop hurting Tyson. All she earnt was a warning as sharp claws swiped at her. She hadn’t expected much else; few dæmon’s would have agreed to work against their human.
If Tyson fought back, Yenta would have been harmed. If Yenta intervened, things would have gotten worse for Ty. Yet having the other there gave them more motivation to fight, to protect the other. It certainly helped them survive in the desert. Tyson had to keep going, or Yenta would die and turn to dust. Yenta had to keep marching onward, or Tyson might not pick himself up again.
When Lily led them to water, there was no conversation about adopting this dog. They both knew, they would be indebted to this Dalmatian-Dhole cross forever. Equally, there hadn’t been a conversation about keeping Jack when he wouldn’t accept another trainer. Jack was a one human, one dæmon dog.
Both entered the web with hackles raised and teeth bared. The Soldier in full show with The Colonel’s abuse still fresh; it wasn’t her human, but it wasn’t wrong either. The Moriarty Mirrors’ were a means to an end, until they weren’t. Until their little pack were all obediently following Jim, both Jims.
Yenta disapproves of their work. After everything that happened, however, she has a much harder time convincing Tyson to trust his heart over logic; and, as Tyson freely admits that he loves Moriarty, her argument doesn’t get much traction. Knowing that Tyson hates the work his Darling owners ask of him, that gives Yenta some leverage to convince Tyson to do more good. To do more to atone for the work they do.
Between looking after their dogs, juggling the constant workflow for the web, catering to Jims’ whims, making maps, avoiding The Colonel, running the pet store whenever possible, and trying to counterbalance all of that by going out of their way to do good and charitable things, Tyson and Yenta are stretching themselves dangerously thin.

Billy Ramsey

The face claim for Billy is Halle Berry.
Tyson and Billy are working from a point of Mutually Assured Destruction.
If Delaney doesn’t feed her tips about criminal operations in competition with the web and any corporate corruption rumours that come his way, she’ll expose his true career to the world; endangering those he loves. If Ramsey doesn’t keep quiet about his work, he’ll ruin her career by reveal where her information came from; and stopping the funds going to her daughter, Pepper.
Neither are cruel people. Neither Tyson nor Billy want to hurt the other, and the people in their lives, like that. However, it’s a fact of their arrangement that the danger in there on both sides. Frenemies is the best way to explain their relationship. They get on well enough, but here will always be a rivalry to their interactions. Trying to out play each other: Billy trying to get more information out of Delaney, Tyson trying to lead Ramsey’s attention towards enemies of the web.
Though Billy is now a freelance reporter - primarily investigative, and current events to pay the bills - she got her start in the fashion columns. A passion that never truly went away. Whenever Tyson sees her, Billy is wearing at least one new item. She doesn’t wear much jewellery, usually only earrings, but she seems to have a different hat for every day of the year. Whilst vests and tank-tops are fine, Billy has a hated of t-shirts that she’s never given a straight answer to Tyson about.
“Ha, get it? Because I’m-”
“Yes, you’re a lesbian. I know, Billy.”
As such, Tyson had ended up being ‘gifted’ innumerable t-shirts from the various events and conventions that Billy has covered. Rarely something Tyson would wear of his own volition, but they come in handy when he needs a disguise for a role: for himself or Lex. Mercy be the generic unisex medium sized t-shirt standardisation.
When Billy was little, her father used to call her a ‘silly, billy, little goat’. It was a name that stuck around. Her twin brother Oswald apparently also had a similar nickname. One she refuses to tell Tyson, claiming that it only makes sense if one sees Oswald’s reaction to it and Tyson has yet to meet the older - “But only by, like, two minutes - so it doesn’t really count.” - Ramsey twin.
Before their rivalry began, Tyson met her whilst walking his dogs, as a fellow night owl wandering around Bushy Park. They bonded over a shared sense of underwhelming disappoint over that name, a dislike of alcohol, and a love of autumn, though Tyson can’t match her love of Halloween. On that first night, he also learnt that she hates every type of bug and insect.
Since then, Tyson found out that she loves hot chocolate with whipped cream and hates tea with a burning passion. He took her took adopt her cat, a three-legged Abyssinian Cat called Quip, because she doesn’t shut up. Ever. An adventurous cat who cares more about playing than cuddling, and meows even whilst she’s asleep. Quip is missing her back left leg entirely, seemingly from birth, and lacks hearing in her right ear due to infection from years living as a stray.
Billy has a daughter, Pepper, who is currently attending Cambridge University to study zoology and archaeology. She only applied as a pipe-dream, knowing that she could never pay the tuition. However, when Pepper was accepted by the university, Billy refused to let her give up such an amazing opportunity for financial reasons.
Knowing his history with the university, Billy went to Tyson, willing to beg and plead, to hand over every scrap of evidence against him. None of that was necessary. Tyson was happy to use the family fortune to pay for Pepper’s education. So long as Pepper completes her education, and Billy doesn’t expose him, Tyson will pay for her tuition and any expenses.
He ran from the family legacy of teaching mathematics at Cambridge, but - in his heart of hearts - Tyson will always be a scholar and he loves Cambridge, both the city and the university. He has a kind heart, and goes out of his way to do good to atone for the work he does for the Moriarty Mirrors. Even if Tyson will only admit to the first reason, Billy knows the whole truth.
Billy and Quip are a perfect pair, in that neither will ever shut up for all the gold in the world and yet - somehow - it is impossible to stay mad at either of them. Billy may ramble ceaselessly, but she’s so genuine in her words and so enthusiastic in her explanations that Tyson finds it impossible not to get drawn in by her energy.
