Playlists

Though certain songs are important to him, Tyson’s enjoyment of music is largely passive.

For the most part, he listens to a mixture of classical music and video games soundtracks simply to have background noise to keep himself from getting too caught up in his own head. When actually wanting to listen to music, Tyson’s preference generally ranges from blues to rock to punk and alternative.

If one were to look at the playlists saves on his phone or laptop, however, a very different picture would appear. Almost every playlist Tyson has it tailored around someone he spends time around, songs he knows that they’ll enjoy or to put them in a specific mindset.

There are the obvious ones - a playlist for babysitting James and one for hanging out with his brother, Jethro - and some less obvious choices, such as the purely K-Pop playlist for when he’s hanging out with Billy or the video game soundtrack remixes for when he’s working with Nate.

Tyson will transition between two different playlists for Lex, as he needs to calm or energise him for the job at hand, and two for Dick; starting with cathartic blues to transition into more cheerful songs to encourage him into a better mood.

Important Songs

Everyone has songs that hold a special place in their heart.

For Tyson, some of those songs are:

• Bat out of Hell - Meat Loaf
  Whenever Tyson found Kim doing her carpentry, she was almost guaranteed to be listening to that song if not something from the same album.
• Big Iron on his Hip - Marty Robbins
  The first song Tyson got Dick to play on guitar, after a long period of harsh depression.
• Chocolate - The 1975
  A song shared between Tyson and his nephew James.
• I Won’t Send Roses - Mack & Mabel
  Sebastian used to sing this to Tyson.
• Life less ordinary - Carbon Leaf
  Reminds Tyson of the Moriarty Mirrors + Old Playlist for Tyson
• Oh, Danny boy
  Jethro used to sing this to Tyson, and Tyson sung it to comfort himself after some of Sebastian’s worst beatings.
• Pumped up Kicks - Foster the People
  Tyson’s default ringtone, when he doesn’t have it on vibrate.
• The Sound of Silence - Simon & Garfunkel
  Tyson’s father used to play this a lot.

The Piano Man

Whilst Tyson and Sebastian were in India, Tyson would play the piano to earn money.


Whilst Sebastian would spend the night drinking, Tyson would play the piano so that he could keep an eye on Sebastian whilst making sure they had enough money to get food and pay off Sebastian's bar bills. They had no need to pay for hotels because they spent most nights in the streets.

The stars represent how the songs change Tyson's mood, the further left the worse the mood the further right the better. Playing these songs in this order keeps him in the content mood with him bouncing around the room.

When Sebastian's beating were particularly vicious Tyson would sing Oh Danny boy because it is what Jethro sung to Tyson when he was young.
