Gaming

Though something of a completion-ist for open world games, Tyson rarely has the time to actually complete games, so his pile of ‘in progress games’ is more or less equal to the number of games that he actually owns.
  • Tyson tends to write stories around the Sims for his nephew.
  • Nate will defeat Tyson in almost any competitive video game.
  • The current Mario Party line up goes: Tyson - Dry Bones, Jethro - Daisy, Rosie - Goomba, James - Yoshi, Charlie - Wario, & Jasmine - Shy Guy.
  • Here is the Dragon Age Keep link for Tyson’s main Dragon Age universe. He tends to play RPGs ‘in character’. Whatever he feels the personality of that character is or the choices that seem consistent for the character’s previous choices are what Tyson will run with and he’ll see where that takes him without meta-gaming it.
  • The exception to that is when Tyson is trying to Platinum a game. He doesn’t have much time to complete games, especially when he keeps going back and replaying games that he’s already perfected, but he does like to get as many trophies as he can.
  • Tyson & James are trying to Platinum every LEGO game together.
  • When playing Darkest Dungeon, Tyson tends to run Jester - Occultist - Hellion - Highwayman.
  • Tyson is oddly fond of games like Dream Daddy & Monster Prom.
  • He has pretty good aim with a controller for most games, but Tyson will always be terrible at twin-stick shooters and racing games. The latter is simply a complete lack of interest in learning.
  • No matter what Tyson hates using shotguns in games. He doesn’t know if that’s a holdover from his distaste for actual shotguns, but unless trophy completion demands that Tyson uses a shotgun, he will go out of his way to avoid using one in a game.
Generally speaking, Tyson is a flexible player, but there are always a few mains that he’ll come back to in regularly played games and characters he’ll almost always have on his team when replaying games:
  • Blazblue: Cross Tag Battle: Akihiko & Chie/Jubei & Yang
  • Dragon Age: Main Team
    | Origins: Morrigan, Shale, & Zevran
    | 2: Fenris, Merill, & Varric
    | Inquisition: Cassandra, Solas, & Varric
  • Mass Effect: Main Team
    | 1: Garrus & Kaidan
    | 2: Garrus & Zaeed
    | 3: Garrus & Kaidan
    | A: Jaal & Vetra
  • Overwatch: Brigitte - D.Va - Lucio - Moira - Tracer - Zarya
  • Persona: Main Team
    | 3: Akihiko, Ken, & Yukari
    | 4: Kanji, Naoto, & Yukiko
    | 5: Ryuji, Makoto, & Morgana
  • PVZ GW2: *
    | Plants: BBQ Corn - Count Chompula - Future Cactus - Law Pea - Stuffy Flower
    | Zombies: Arctic Trooper - Captain Sharkbite - Golf Star - Painter - Paleontologist
  • Smite: Artemis -  Ganesha - Jing Wei - Ratatoskr - Sol
  • Team Fortress 2: Medic - Scout
* Tyson is actually very fond of Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2. It’s one of the few shooters he can play regardless of his mental state that will not remind Tyson of his time as a soldier or his work for the web. Plus, it’s a game that James and Jethro enjoy too.

Redemption!Verse

In this sub-verse, Jethro and Rosie died in a car crash, which meant Tyson ended up taking custody of his nephew James, as his legal guardian. Needing more space, Tyson now lives in the London suburbs in a house that conveniently shares the same layout as the pontic mountains home.
In this verses, Tyson still has Lily, Bobby, Jack, & Draco. However, James’ nanny Charlie Hotchner has also moved in with them to help take care of James. Though Tyson still has his motorbike in this verse, he needed more room and has taken to driving a Hyundai Santa Fe instead.
Additionally, they’ve adopted a male Ragdoll cat called Felix as a companion for James. Felix is docile and very affectionate. He’s done a lot to help James come out of his shell after his parent’s death. As a promise to show that he’ll always come back, Tyson keeps the crow plush James gave him on him at all times.
Tyson still works for the Moriarty Mirrors, but his outlook has changed. He feels far more guilt than he used to about the work and has returned to taking on less risky work. He enjoys the murder as much as he does in corruption!verse, but now it’s a rare treat between his other jobs instead. James does not know what Tyson does for a living.
It’s a slow process, but Tyson is softening. He’s teaching James how to skateboard with him when he takes the dogs out on their walks. For the sake of James’ health, he’s cutting down how much he smokes; though on an evening, he is drinking far more.
Tyson is more friendly here than in corruption!verse. Especially when James is with him. He is very protective of his nephew, but Tyson is also more willing to talk to people for James’ sake. Everything he does in this verse is either for the Moriarty Mirrors or those in his care: James and their pets.
As much as Tyson could love to wear himself ragged chasing down an enemy, Rosie and Jethro’s deaths were tragic accidents and nothing more. Not the slightest hint of foul play. The only comfort Tyson can find from it is that James wasn’t in the car at the time.
Though James doesn’t know what his uncle does for a living, his suspicions about him being a secret agent persist and he has finally pieced together that his nanny is also a part of the world Tyson is desperately trying to shelter him from.
For her part, Charlie isn’t happy to be so close to the Moriarty Mirrors again, but she remains as free as one can be from the web and she doesn’t regret agreeing to stay with James for a single second. If anything happens to Tyson, Charlie will care for James like her own.
And then find a way to resurrect Tyson to yell at him for abandoning James, naturally.

Watching Sports

The only sport that Tyson keeps up with regularly is cricket and, even then, he is much more likely to keep up with the scores and decline to actually watch any matches.
Of all the sports that he has any actual interest in, watching cricket suits him the best as it’s a longer format where his attention can drift to and from it without feeling like he’s missing most of the match by doing so.
Without fail, he will always watch the Ashes and Tyson tries to keep up with the one day internationals whilst he’s working from his laptop. Outside of cricket, the only sport that Tyson will regularly watch is rugby and the only guarantee then is watching the Six Nations.

Blackpool

Since James became tall enough to ride most of them, the number of roller coasters that Tyson has been dragged onto has increased exponentially.
Tyson feels oddly proud and yet somehow betrayed at the way Jethro weaponises his son to get Tyson to agree to things.
Usually, they’ll meet in Blackpool for the day: a comfortable mid-point in travel for them both, from Cumbria and London. First to the Sandcastle Waterpark, picnic lunch on the beach, then into the Pleasure Beach (themepark), a break for fish and chips on the pier, before driving out to see the Blackpool Lights; on route to drop Tyson back at the train station.
Tyson isn’t afraid of any of the rides, but he does become antsy on longer rides, feeling caged in and wanting to escape. He also does his best to avoid any that involve getting wet out of principle.

Calling Retreat

Though Tyson is never afraid to make a call when assigned a job by the Moriarty Mirrors, he is also one of the last to call for a full retreat.
He knows that many employees will hold off on calling a retreat at all, fearing the consequences of failing the Moriarty Mirrors, but no matter how servile Tyson maybe, when he is tasked with an assignment he will act to the best of his judgement and refuses to buckle from what he believes. It’s why he’s an asset to the Moriarty Mirrors in the first place.
Instead, Tyson’s lack of full retreats comes from his more cautious approach and meticulous planning. He will gladly pull out before being an offensive, replan, and approach once more a dozen times before committing if that is what is needed.
He also isn’t afraid to approach again when a temporary retreat is forced, rather than abandoning the job completely. Tyson is the furthest from reckless, but he knows how to use confusion and panic as weapons in his favour. Once a retreat is forced, few would expect the next assault to follow immediately.
Rather than letting the dust settle, Tyson uses it as cover.

Arlington & Alinson

Professor Arlington and Alinson are the people who call Tyson in to guest lecture at Cambridge University.
Professor Arlington is one of the professors in the mathematics department. He helped teach Tyson when he attended the university and, prior to that, knew Tyson through his father, when he visited the Delaney Family Manor for one of the late John Delaney’s garden parties. Towards the end of those gatherings when Tyson’s social anxieties were flaring up, Professor Arlington used to distract Tyson by playing a game of chess against him. Now every time Tyson comes to Cambridge to guest lecture, it has become a tradition that the pair play at least one game of chess against each other.
Professor Arlington is a skinny, tall man who’s hair is grey-white and balding on top. His back and shoulders are usually hunched, after years bent over a desk, but his kind smile fills up his entire face. Ink from fountain pens almost always covers his pale hands. Years of laughter crinkle around brown eyes, behind his half moon spectacles; which Tyson suspects may still be the same pair he wore back when Tyson attended Cambridge
Until they were introduced by Tyson’s former military-history professor after one of Tyson’s guest lectures, Professor Alinson and Tyson had never met. Professor Alinson is head of the economics department. They struck up a strong rapport over a shared love of numbers and dogs. When visiting Cambridge, either to guest lecture or to visit Jasmine, Tyson makes sure to share a coffee with the quick-witted Professor and his overly affectionate brown poodle.
Professor Alinson is a Hispanic man with a thick, heavy Arizona accent. He keeps his head shaved, but has a goatee throughout most of the year, letting it grow out into a short, curly brown beard during the winter months. He is a large man with a laugh that fills any lecture hall. His left hand was amputate following a childhood accident. It’s not uncommon to find the Professor writing at his desk, with his removed prosthetic working as a paperweight.
Alinson’s poodle is called Riker, after the Star Trek character, and Arlington keeps Koi fish in his garden. Riker is rather determined to catch one of Arlington’s Koi fish, but finds himself thwarted by the fact that he’s terrified of the water jet in the middle of the pond and thus cannot go anywhere near when it’s running.

Secret DC SU

Though it remains unlisted due to too much overlap with Tyson’s various SciFi!Verses and a lack of a secondary Earth!Verse (Marvel AU) to balance it out, there is an unofficial sub-verse of Tyson’s DC UA in which Tyson is a member of one of the Lantern Corps: The Indigo Tribe.
“Tor lorek san, bor nakka mur,
Natromo faan tornek wot ur.
Ter Lantern ker lo Abin Sur,
Taan lek lek nok–Formorrow Sur!”
Of all the things that Tyson has done to protect the Moriarty Mirrors, volunteering to wear a parasitic ring in their place is one of the more reckless decisions.
However, Tyson did choose to wear the ring without hesitation - a bargain stuck to avoid the ring being forced upon one of the Moriarty Mirrors - and as such, he can wield the Indigo Tribe’s ring of compassion without losing himself to pure compassion and can remove the ring at his own choosing.
Whenever Tyson does choose to remove the ring, he forgets everything that happened whilst wearing the Indigo ring and the memories return once he puts it back on.
Though Tyson remains of his own mind and could theoretically do anything whilst wearing the Lantern ring, he does take it off when doing jobs for the Moriarty Mirrors; just in case the indigo light changes its mind about consuming his. This also leads to him avoiding discussing work for the web whilst wearing the ring, to avoid having to learn the entire plan a second time.
He has been able to channel the emotions of other rings in the past whilst wearing the Indigo ring, but Tyson finds it very hard to avoid getting consumed by the channelled emotion and tries to avoid leaning on that ability too much.

Nate Morrison

The faceclaim for Nate is Harold Perrineau.
Nate is the head of one of the legal firms that the web uses to drag its employees out of trouble when necessary. Relatively speaking, he’s a new edition to the web, having been recruited by Tyson on the Moriarty Mirrors’ orders.
He’s smart as a whip and committed to his job, both for the law firm as a whole and for the web. When he’s focused on his job, Nate can seem cold, but he has a heart of gold and is impossibly generous with sharing his wealth. He might be a sugar daddy to multiple people, though that might also simply be a nickname; Tyson’s never gotten a definitive answer either way.
Whenever Tyson shows up for a meeting with Nate, he will inevitably be told that he’s out to brunch. He’s pretty sure that Nate just likes making Tyson run around for him. It’s either that or he’s determined to try every location in London that serves brunch. Tyson has learnt not to argue with Nate about the necessity of brunch.
Or about getting called syrupy names, like honeybun or sugarmuffin. It makes no difference, Nate will simply make up a new name. Some of which Tyson still hasn’t managed to decipher from his chicken-scratch handwriting. Despite this clear handicap towards understanding previous answers or notes, Nate loves puzzle books: especially logic puzzles.
Nate is Tritanopia colour blind, but - regardless - he will defeat Tyson in almost any competitive video game. He has a grey Maine Coon called Flynn, that he got with his ex-husband, Preston; Nate is still on good terms with the ballet dancer. He grew up in New York with his adopted family. His original surname was Ryder.
At this point, Tyson isn’t actually certain that Nate and Preston are actually divorced, he also isn’t sure if they were ever married in the first place, or that they were ever even dating and aren’t simply like that together. He knows that neither are going to give him a proper answer and that they have the paperwork to cover for all possible outcomes.
