Swearing

Tyson tries not to swear.

When he does he tends to do it in Hebrew and Latin to avoid being understood. He isn't against swearing -not inherently, though he does think it gets vulgar when used excessively - he simply prefers not to in polite company or in public places.

When swearing with his hands Tyson always uses the first two fingers of his right hand. It's always felt odd to him to swear with his middle finger, pulling back the first. So he's always sworn the 'English way', link to the misconceptions about its origin.

Tyson's scent

Vanilla, (-milk and honey) apple, earth, parchment (+almond)
Tyson wears soft, comforting - homely - scents that are sweet, but not over powering. Only the honey is truly sweet but that is the least prominent scent around Tyson. The apple smells like the fruit (succulent) rather than the sweetness of the cartoned juice. The nostalgic milky-warmth of the vanilla goes hand in hand with the faint creaminess that accompanies the smooth milk scent.
(When working on a job that takes him away from home Tyson is often staying outdoors were he hasn’t got access to a shower. Rather than using his normal liquid soaps he’ll swap to a bar of soap for ease in whatever water he has found; taking away the honey and milk, replacing them with the light nutty aroma of almonds.)
His grandmother, who taught him to play piano, used to bake apple pies with him. She sweetened the pastry by adding vanilla extract, then added a dollop of honey to Tyson’s slice as she served it to him with a glass of milk. Every now and again she’d add a handful of ground almonds to the apple mixture she put in the pie. She passed when Tyson was nine.
Tyson spends so much time with his own dogs, with their fur all over him, that no matter how many times he showers he always has a linger scent of dog. Not in a bad way, not like wet dog, but the soft earthy scent your hands get when they run through a dog’s coat.
Tyson’s own scent is faint. He’s constantly surrounded by paper work and maps making him smell like faded parchment. The paperwork he does during the day in on new fresh, crisp paper but the rest of the paper he handles is old. The mathematics book he flicks through and the maps he handled (other than the custom ones he makes) are all from pre-twentieth century.
Since his teens Tyson had worn Davidoff Cool Water aftershave, it’s been around since 1988. He’s dabbled in other aftershaves, but he had always come back to Cool Water. He takes comfort in the familiarity of the aquatic scent. It smells clean, initially of amber, tobacco, oak-moss, and geranium; he loves how after it begins to fade - roughly forty minutes - it still smells clean and starts to smell like lavender, salt, and mint which hangs around for a good six hours. He’s quite fond that unlike most aquatic aftershaves it doesn’t smell like citric fruits, instead it smells masculine. Original headcanon.
Tyson likes patterns, want everything to be the same, never changing. So he always uses the same brands to clean himself. He uses the excuse of having sensitive skin (which is true, he does) to avoid seeming sentimental but the truth is that he’s been using most of these since he was a boy, since he was nine. When certain brands went out of business he replaced them with the closest brand he could find. He only wears scent less deodorant.

Mess

Tyson views sand, glitter, pine needles, and crumbs as the same thing - problems that won't go away for a long time.

He likes things to be tidy, the items in the above lists never seem to disappear no matter how man times you vacuum.

Tyson's favourite non-sexual couple activity.

Tyson's favourite non-sexual couple activity is to kiss his partner's body.

Not in a sexual way, but instead in an 'I like kissing things and I like your body' way. He'll avoid sensitive areas that he might normally kiss and always stay two inches about the trouser or boxer line.

He'll often do this when he doesn't want to think and instead just wants to be intimate with his partner without the 'commitment' of being aware of his surroundings. He'll start kissing in a grid pattern; if he was kissing the next then he might do a five by five 'grid' of kisses, going left to right on the top layer than right to left on the second. From at the last row he'll shift to columns instead, going bottom to top then top to bottom then returning to the original pattern when he gets to his starting place.

When he isn't in the mood to just be intimate then it's a scattered pattern, though the pattern will only be obvious to Tyson.

Field stripping

Tyson rarely smokes anymore, but when he does he field strips the cigarettes.

He does this because when he'd first started smoking he'd been in the army where they were taught to field strip their cigarettes to prevent leaving a trail that could be followed. Unlike the usual remains of smoking the small balls of a paper are a lot harder to use to track a person.

Tyson tends to keep a packet of cigarettes on him encase he gets a craving or if anyone wants to borrow one, it's a good way to keep peace on longer missions. It can varey but usual he smokes Lambert and Butler.

2012 BMW G650GS SERTÃO

Tyson owns a motorbike in all the verses, but he rarely uses it in the main!verse.

In the main!verse he keeps it in a storage locker he owns on the other side of London, but only uses it when he's travelling somewhere and doesn't want to go by train. He doesn't use it to get around London, instead he uses his bicycle.

In army!verse, it's his primary mode of transportation.

*Side note: the HTML shows the name of the bike he originally had, it was changed later when his old bike broke.

Showers

One of hundred and one strange quirks Tyson has is showering in his swimming trunks. He lifts the waistband to put soap on himself then lets the water run through to remove the soap from his body.

Tyson has never been comfortable in his own body so showers whilst wearing his trunks because this makes him feel covered; and safer because of that. Another part of it is paranoia, and possibly also Pyscho's influence in the public mind, of feeling unsafe when he can't always hear over the sound of water/having nowhere to run. Largely his OCD makes the shower a safe calming space for Tyson, but once he's already on edge it's hard to take comfort in that.

When he's in a hurry yet needs a shower - to settle his OCD or for genuine need - he won't waste the time doing this, but this is the norm for him. Something that has only been compounded by Bobby's need to jump under any running water. Tyson isn't embarrassed about being naked around his dogs, but if he can do anything to minimise the changes of Bobby's claws catching sensitive areas, he'll take it.

Tyson hates having hair tucked behind his ears. Whenever anyone does it to him he will untuck it and he combs his hair in a way to makes it lay on top of his ears rather than being tucked behind it.

He can't explain why but he just hates it. If he had to guess, however, it comes from endless patronising professors petting at the young Delaney heir for performing his 'tricks'.

Tyson's work belt

"He used his belt for most of his essential gear. His multi-purpose knife was attached to his belt by a leather sheath on the left side of his body. His gun in the same way to his right, several magazines were attached behind the knife - where it felt most natural and easy to access them. Covering his belt from view was a strong length of rope, wrapped through the belt loops of his trousers, again for easier access. As knives didn’t need to be refilled with ammo, where ammo might have gone behind the gun was instead a metal flask of water and a metal container that worked as a simple first aid kit." - Quote from thread.
There are several different parts of Tyson's work belt. When in public is jacket usually covered the weapons so that he doesn't panic the public and when wearing this he always makes a point to put his dog tags on top of his clothes so that anyone who spots the weapons will assume that he's a military operative working with the police - this has worked well so far.
Knives.
Tyson usually has his hunting knife in the sheath and keeps his silver edged knife in his rucksack. The handles of these knives start being hollow two thirds of the way down the handle, which means that the rest of the handle contained the tang of the blade - making it hard to snap off and difficult to break. The silver edged knife's rubber edged handle is filled with salt, the blade of this knife is six inches long.

The hunting knife has a serrated edge on the back side. The handle has black rubber grips over the metal and is custom made to fit Tyson's hand/grip style. The removable cap of the handle has a compass on it, on the side that faces up so that it can always been seen. The hollow part of this knife contains a whetstone, two pieces of flint to make a fire (spark) with a small box of wood chips to use as kindling, and a fake circular stone (make to look like a piece of Heliotrope) that is actually a GPS chip to track Tyson's location. The blade of the hunting knife is seven inches long and he keeps a spare version of this blade in his rucksack at all times.
Gun and magazines.
The kind of gun Tyson uses is a Glock 17 9mm pistol. It is registered. General Clarkson had it sent to him for protection from Sebastian soon after he cleared Tyson of all criminal charges based on his shooting and Tyson's departure from the forces.

There are several attachments available for this gun but the only one Tyson has, mostly kept in his rucksack, is the torch. The only other gun Tyson owners is a Browning 9mm, the gun he took with him when he was forced to abandon the army by Sebastian.

Tyson's preferred weapon is the knives but he can't complain.
First aid kit.
In the first aid kit is:

  • A stitching needle and thread
  • A small bottle of rubbing alcohol, 70%

  • Sterile gauze dressing

  • Wrapping bandages

  • Pain killers

  • Caffeinated tablets

  • Antiseptic cream

  • Tyson also has the first aid kit that he always keeps in his rucksack which has extra supplies and refills.

In teacher!verse Tyson drives a Hyundai Santa Fe

He does this because in Teacher!Verse he has three dogs (Jack, Bobby, and Lily) so needs the boot space.

    Sleepwear

When he doesn't simply crash where he's sat, Tyson sleeps in a pair of black boxers and a thin light grey v-neck t-shirt.

On the nights, most nights, when he is too tired to get fully undressed and decides that bending is too much effort he'll also be wearing a black sock - usually on his right foot.
Tyson has a candy jar on the coffee table that is filled with dog treats.

    Meg

Meg is the welsh boarder collie that Tyson has in army!verse and Veteran AU.

He adopted Meg from a rescue center, when he is away on service Jethro looks after Meg.

    Companions

Though Tyson often finds himself feeling lonely when only with his dogs, he finds it easier to be with them than with other humans.

Dogs are easier for him because he doesn't have to talk. Rather than stuttering or stumbling over his words he can just click his fingers. He has trained his dogs to respond to visual cues rather than vocal cues because it is easier for him that way.

He only uses vocal cues when teaching a new trick to the dogs.
